Electrification by solar energy. The sun is an inexhaustible, less expensive and less polluting source of energy. However, more than 600 million people on the continent are still without electricity. The African continent has 15% of the world's population but consumes only 3% of the world's energy. Wood still accounts for 47% of primary energy. To address this situation, SOCOFI has set up a programme to support electrification through large urban areas and rural areas through solar electrification. The interested countries sign a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SOCOFI for a period of 20 years.
